Advanced Plants & Soil-Period 1 Assignments

Look on the internet and find a recent article about large fruit production or farming.  Make sure it is from 2021.  Read it, post the link below, and write two sentences after the link summarizing the article.

After watching the video, write a paragraph about how you think American families will be affected if the price of fresh fruits and vegetables go up?  Will this affect what people buy?  Will this cause an impact on health?  What types of things might they buy instead?  Be sure to give a minimum of 5 sentences and answer the questions.  There is not a correct answer.  This is your opinion of what you think would happen.

Watch and understand how the pandemic has affected farmers and the market for produce.

Complete your slide deck. Read through it. Be sure that it is in a logical order to explain the topic. Proofread it for errors. Be sure it is visually pleasing...add photos or diagrams to assist in understanding. Turn in your final draft for grading by the end of the day.

Gather your facts from your sources. Organize them into a logical order. Create an outline using your slides or document. Begin to build the body of your slides with the facts and images that support your topic.

You may choose from the topics below. You may work with a partner as a team of 2. You need to find a minimum of 3 credible sources containing enough information to understand the issue. You can organize your research information in a Google doc or slides. Share with me the names of your team members, the topic of choice, the 3+ sources, and a paragraph that summarizes the overview of your project.

Topic Selection:
Organic vs. Inorganic Foods - What does it mean, is there a difference, and how does it affect our health?
The Food Rating System for Vegetables by the USDA - How does the system work and what do the ratings mean?
Genetically Modified Foods - What does it mean, what foods are genetically modified, and are they harmful to your health?
Food Security and Population Growth - Should we be concerned and what solutions are being considered for the future?

Remember that you might learn about these topics from an article, a website, a news broadcast on YouTube, or other content online. Please do not settle for the first three that you find. Be complete and thorough with an extensive search for good content.

Create a Hydroponic Farm Brochure - You may do this in Google Slides, or any other format you might like to use.

You are the owner of a hydroponic farm. Give your farm a name and decide what products you grow. Create a brochure for your farm. Keep in mind that the people who read your brochure might be:
• restaurants or grocery store owners who may buy your vegetables
• people who are thinking of investing in your business
• people who are touring your farm

Be sure to include:
• information about what makes your farm different
• the type of hydroponic processes you use
• reasons why your products are superior
• the environmental benefits of your style of farming

Make sure your brochure is pleasing to look at with good use of images and color.

You may find the answers in the video from yesterday, or you may use your search engine to discover the parts of the cell and label them.

Just write your answers in order from 1-11 and turn them in for the parts of the flower for the image attached. You are welcome to write on the image/file if you like.

A special note to let you know...we miss you all very much!

Watch the Video and label the parts of your flower diagram. You may need to google the parts of a flower to be sure that you have the right labels on the right parts.

Please research online and list some of the uses of the cultivated plants in this sheet for food products, industrial products and medicine or medical applications. Choose one crop of your own for the last plant on the list.

In the lecture, there is a place where I did an example of using the Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species classifications to classify Transportation, all the way down to a specific car. Send me a sample of it...you can type it, write it and take a picture, or even just make a little one minute video talking about it! Send me something!

The first set are from the Texas Native Plants assignment, and the last 5 are for this week and they complete your portfolio on Texas Native Plants. The very last slide allows you to design the landscaping around the Gazebo. We will be planting this area during the next 6 weeks in front of the school. Please do these and submit by Thursday. Prioritize the Study Guide First, but be working on these as well. First 2 slides are done - nothing to do on them.

Hi Plant and Soil Scientists! We are going to do a presentation project!
Please create a deck of Google Slides on the topic of Water Pollution and Agriculture. I would like to see about 8-10 slides. Please include some pictures or diagrams on your slides to make them interesting and to bring the information alive. I have posted a few websites below for you to utilize. Scroll down on the site to get to the information on water pollution and agriculture. I encourage you to do some of your own research online to find more material.

Here are the main items I want you to address on your slides:
What is water pollution?
How does agriculture create pollution in water?
What are some of the common chemicals that are found in water from agriculture?
What are some things that are being done in agriculture to reduce water pollution?
How can the water be treated to make it clean for use?

Grade will be 70% based on the educational content and answering all of the questions thoroughly. The remaining 30% willl be for the visual aspects of the slides.
BONUS: A 10 POINT BONUS WILL BE AWARDED FOR ANYONE WHO MAKES AND SUBMITS A VIDEO OF THEMSELVES PRESENTING THEIR SLIDES!
